Dr. Roz & Sistas is the debut album from Dr. Roz Roach which serves as the soundtrack for stage production, Sistas Calling. The album features ten original songs all written by Dr. Roz, spanning multiple genres, including pop, calypso, and poetry. The consistent messaging from the composition is empowerment, healing, resilience, and unity.
No Means No is the 1st single from the album. The Consent Anthem we have all been waiting for blends dance pop, Latin, and calypso elements that get everyone dancing and singing along. The lyrics are clear "can't touch this, can't touch this, no permission given" sending a direct message that body sovereignty is a must, consent is a must, and that women's bodies are not for consumption.
The title track, Sistas Calling is a drum-heavy pop anthem that calls on all men and women around the world to join the anti-violence movement. Lyrics appeal to "Brothas with Souls" to do their part to end violence against women and girls.
Dr. Roz & Sistas is one of the cornerstones of the SCOPE program. All proceeds from each sale will support The SCOPE Program. The SCOPE (Sistas Calling Outreach & Public Education) Program was designed by Dr. Roz of Dr. Roz’s Healing Place with the intention of calling on the global community, particularly men, to work together to dismantle violence against women and children. The SCOPE program offers activities and events using the album, Dr. Roz & Sistas, and the music dance theatre production, Sistas Calling, which tells the story of a survivor named Rosa who escapes abuse, heals her trauma, and overcomes racism and sexism, to transform and emerge resilient and empowered. SCOPE seeks to spread powerful messaging using music, art, and performance to reach the public in an authentic and immersive way.
